Description

First featured in The Saturday Evening Post, HENRY is a comic strip created in 1932 by cartoonist Carl Anderson who was 67 years old at the time.  The title character is a young bald boy who is mute (and sometimes drawn minus a mouth).  With the exception of only a few episodes, the character communicates only through pantomime, which changed when Henry moved into the longer form of comic books.

William Randolph Hearst signed Anderson to King Features Syndicate in 1934.  By 1942, Anderson’s arthritis had him turn to his assistants Don Trachte and John Liney.  Liney retired in 1979.  Jack Tippet took over the dailies until ’83.  Dick Hodgins, Jr. did them from ’83 through 1990.  Trachte continued the Sundays through 1995.  About 75 newspapers still run classic HENRY strips.

Oh man, now this is reaching WAY back to classic newspaper comic characters!  Nice :)
